Elara clutched her brass-bound journal, the intricate gears etched on its cover gleaming in the flickering gaslight. She stood on the platform of the Aetherium Transit Station, a marvel of polished wood and hissing steam pipes. Her goggles, perched atop her braided auburn hair, reflected the bustling scene: automatons trundling luggage, airship captains in their leather coats, and a general air of thrilling possibility. Elara, a cartographer with a penchant for the uncharted, was about to embark on her grandest adventure yet – a journey to the legendary Sky Islands of Aethel.

The grand airship, The Wanderer, was a sight to behold. Its massive hydrogen balloon, patched with intricate patterns, dwarfed the station. Brass propellers whirred gently as Elara ascended the gangplank, her heart thrumming with anticipation. Inside, polished mahogany and gleaming instruments filled the cabin. She found a window seat, eager to watch their departure.

With a mighty hiss of steam and a gentle lurch, The Wanderer lifted from the platform. Elara gasped as the city shrank below, revealing a tapestry of interconnected gears and clockwork structures. Other airships, like elegant metal birds, dotted the horizon. The wind whistled past the porthole, carrying the scent of ozone and adventure.

Days turned into a kaleidoscope of breathtaking views. They soared over vast clockwork deserts where mechanical dunes shifted in the artificial wind, and through shimmering auroras powered by harnessed celestial energy. Elara spent her time sketching in her journal, meticulously documenting the fantastical landscapes and the ingenious mechanisms that kept their world aloft.

One evening, a tremor ran through The Wanderer. Alarms blared, and the captain's voice crackled over the intercom, "Sky pirates! Prepare for evasive maneuvers!" Through the window, Elara saw sleek, black airships with menacing grappling hooks speeding towards them. The adventure had taken an unexpected, dangerous turn.

The sky pirates, clad in patched leather and wielding strange, energy-based weaponry, boarded The Wanderer. Chaos erupted. Elara, though frightened, remembered the small, spring-loaded grappling hook she kept in her satchel – a gift from a quirky inventor friend. It was meant for scaling cliffs, but perhaps it could serve another purpose.

With surprising agility, Elara dodged a clumsy pirate and flung her grappling hook. It snagged onto a nearby support beam. Using the rope, she swung across the cabin, narrowly avoiding laser fire and creating a diversion that allowed the airship's engineer to vent a burst of steam, temporarily disorienting the attackers.

The crew of The Wanderer, inspired by Elara's bravery, fought back with renewed vigor. Gears whirred, steam hissed, and makeshift defenses were deployed. Eventually, the sky pirates, overwhelmed and outmaneuvered, retreated to their own vessels and vanished into the clouds.

Finally, through the swirling mist, the Sky Islands of Aethel came into view. They were a breathtaking collection of landmasses held aloft by intricate networks of gears, steam vents, and shimmering crystals. Cities built of polished brass and gleaming copper clung to their sides, connected by ornate sky-bridges. Elara had arrived.

Stepping onto the bustling cobblestone streets of Atheria, the main city of the Sky Islands, Elara felt a thrill of accomplishment. The air hummed with the energy of countless ingenious inventions. Her adventure had been more perilous than she imagined, but it had also proven her courage and resourcefulness. With her journal in hand and her goggles gleaming, Elara knew her exploration of Aethel had just begun.

Here's a few little quirks and facts about the Paddock Princess. Just how well do you truly know her?
Known as the Paddock Princess. The moniker came as no surprise after fans caught on to her personal style. Either clad in the latest trends in fashion or bold fashion statement pieces, she usually stands out in the paddock - where there's a flock of people wanting a photo or asking what a driver is wearing, best believe it's probably Quinton.
Highly adored and favored by her team. Her eagerness and positive energy in the garage is what makes her a favorite among Red Bull's engineers and mechanics, even their very own team principal. She often exerts a lot of effort to be with her crew even during early hours to chat to them and learn more about what they think she can improve on.
Silverstone and Monaco are her favorite tracks on the calendar. SIlverstone has always been special to her simply because she has gotten a very good track record on the circuit, besides the fact that it's in her home country. Monaco, on the other hand, is loved by fans and Quinton alike - the thrill of challenges posed to her mentally and physically always excites her.
Clumsy and short-tempered. Bumping into tables and bruising herself, dropping tools on her foot by accident, hitting her head on the cockpit when getting in, all this started a running joke with the drivers on the grid calling her an absolute danger to herself. Quinton doesn't particularly like when they point it out, but it hasn't seemed to stop the grid from labelling her as a ticking time bomb for herself.
4 Rookies + 1 Oldie. Quinton has a private group chat with fellow rookies Oliver Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. Having known each other since they were younger, the five drivers formed a very close bond exhibited pre-race and post-race, often being the root of all pranks and trouble in the garages and the paddock.
Very talented dancer. Besides racing, Quinton took up dancing as a hobby out of the car. She took ballet as a kid, but stopped when she started karting at the age of 8. Regardless, she still possesses the ability to bust a move once in a while - especially if it's for Red Bull's beloved fans!
TikTok dances on the podium. To Quinton, champagne spraying and drinking is cool but nothing beats a TikTok triad. Whenever she gets P1 at a race, she makes it her life's mission to get the drivers on the podium with her to dance as well - everyone from Fernando to Kimi, no one is safe from breaking out into a TikTok trend with her.
Has a secret fear of heights. People say climbing to the top is their goal in life, but if you asked Quinton, she'd probably say there's success on the ground too. She absolutely despises high places, so she dreads going to the podium when it's perilously perched on a highly elevated platform - God forbid if the floor is glass too.
Curses like a mad man on the team radio. Contrary to the pretty face and seemingly positive and innocent demeanor, her entire personality changes when she's on track. Quinton hates being told what to do when she's already doing it or she has made up her mind about a strategy or team orders. Anyone who is brave enough to do so when she's laser-focused will unfortunately be on the receiving end of some very colorful words from the young driver.
Is secretly a hopeless romantic. She would probably never admit to it, but she adores those cheesy rom-coms and would spend all day watching them if she could. The thought of young love brings butterflies to her stomach, though she appears to be rather indifferent about that concept when asked in interviews.
Loves to eat but is a terrible chef. Quinton is at a point in her life wherein she's the one begging her friends to not let her into a kitchen. Plates shattered, food spilled on the counter, a whisk somehow stuck in some place for some odd reason, she doesn't know how she does it - she believes she's more useful just waiting in the dining room rather than participating in the kitchen.
Loves taking care of her fellow drivers. What makes Quinton well-loved by the grid is her ability to make them feel welcome and taken care of. Despite their on-track rivalries, Quinton is said to have the biggest heart of them all, especially when accidents occur on track. Should she spot one, she would be one of the first people to stop and check on the driver involved in the accident to make sure they're okay.

“Shots fired. Energy weaponry and firearm. Blue tinge. Tech Team Alpha continue on mission, Pride will break off to engage.”
Aaron waited for a response from the skull-mic in his power armor. Scribe Bigsleys sigh, or snide comment, or whiny remark about the importance of technology over this current hours occurrence of some idiot getting their ass shot off by Raiders, or Gunners, or Super Mutants. They were hunting for clues about the Institute after all, the most important of things.
It did not come, the only reply being a slightly disappointed, “Yes, Elder. Tech Team Alpha continuing sweep.”
For this, the Elder was thankful. Tech Alpha was well armed and equipped, three Scribes including Bigsley, two Knights clad in full combat armor, and two Paladins in T-60F toting plasma casters. Tech retrieval in the Commons was serious business, and it wouldn’t do to have someone mucking about in said business.
The Pride was largely here to purge the ruins as they went, and to provide heavy fire support in the event that Tech Alpha ran into something unmanageable like a Behemoth. All six members clad in modified X-01 with their weapons of choice and looking for anything that looked like it could be the most minor of inconveniences to Brotherhood operations.
Obviously the shouts of a man in clear distress were something they could not ignore, blowing past even their curiosity of the origin of those laser blasts. Gunners, Raiders, even the Brotherhood used the standard AER-9 laser rifle platform in various configurations, these attackers were using something else entirely.
Their approach to the building was rapid, bounding strides shaking the earth as the doorway loomed before them, missing a door and structurally questionable as all buildings in Boston were. When they drew close, a figure stepped from the doorway, weapon drawn, silhouette tense with killing intent that it did not receive the chance to act upon.
Aaron hit the figure like a freight train, one foot raised, the massive armored boot hammering into its chest and pinning it to the wall with a sickening metallic crunch. The Elder had already raised his plasma rifle and emptied several blasts into the things head before it properly registered that it had crunched instead of squished, that it was sparking instead of bleeding.
“Robots!” He called out. The only Synth he had ever met had simply looked like a man, so these skeletal monstrosities seemed like just another of RobCo or General Atomics leftovers. He signaled for the rest of the Pride to enter the building, to breach and clear beyond the doorway.
As the five other power-armored soldiers ducked into the doorway, pouring fire into the other nightmarish mechanical constructs populating the building, Aaron hooked right, the light of his armor and the sights of his rifle settling onto another mechanical construct. This one seemed to be taking cover, wounded -if a robot could be considered wounded-, and dressed in what he could only describe as a detectives getup from some Noir film. For some reason, that stayed his trigger finger.
“Don’t move, and you keep functioning.”

Wrong place, wrong time: that seemed to be about par for the course for Nick Valentine.
An investigation of some ruins down South had taken a sharp turn for the worse when the detective found out he wasn't alone, but where he expected maybe some dug-in Raiders, he found something much worse: synths. Skeletal things, refuse at best-- what they were doing here was over Nick's head for now, because his priority quickly became survival.
Armed with laser weapons and tracking radars, he stood much less of a chance than he usually did against bullets. Any gambit to blend in to what was ultimately his brethren was shot before he could roll the dice on it. He was left huddling behind an overturned desk that was quickly being eroded by blasts of red-hot energy weapons, a hand pressed to his hat to keep it in place as he tried to wait out their ammunition.
But the desk wasn't holding. A shot came close enough to nearly take his ear off-- so Nick did what he could and dashed towards some more cover of a cinder archway that had once been the doorway out.
the blast against his leg was felt immediately, largely because it nearly took his foot off. The detective went down, but thankfully was close enough to crawl the rest of the way to a sitting position behind that entrance.
And close enough to see lights outside. He grimaced at the sight, clutching his pistol close. "Oh, shit."
"Don't shoot," he grumbled, hopefully loud enough to be heard over the gunfire. "Well-- shoot them, not me!"

Building Anew
Now that May The 4th Be With You Excange has revealed I’m crossposting my fic! so here’s some fluffy Grogu and Luke bonding! (also can be kinda dinluke if you want)

In his efforts to rebuild the Jedi order Luke finds himself learning many new things, some were expected such as old Jedi teachings and methods of finding force sensitives, others things he had not expected, such as the favourite colours of his younger students.
"Wait Master Luke, lightsabers can be purple?" a tiny Twi’lek pipes up.
"Yes there's a multitude of different colours that lightsabers can take depending on the users connec-"
"Can they be rainbow? Rainbow is my favorite colour!" comes another voice.
"My favorite is yellow!" from a Nautolan boy.
The ensuing lesson turned into a session of sharing favourite colours. Which, if Luke is being honest, is surprisingly enjoyable.
Teaching turns out to be one of Luke's favourite parts of resurrecting the order. Each of his students is different and helping them find and control their connection to the force is rewarding. The kids are also interesting to talk to, they're happy to tell him, with the honesty and excitement that comes with childhood, about a variety of things from a cool bug they found to what sensing presences in the force feels like.
Luke learns a lot about each of his students, both mundane and not.
Grogu is probably one of the most interesting to communicate with. Luke learns a number of things about Grogu, firstly that the kid has had a long life.
A really long life.
The first time Luke really gets a sense of Grogu's age is a few weeks after he was first brought to the small temple that acted as the youngling teaching quarters. He and Grogu are meditating together when he's hit with a rush of unfamiliar memories.
Huge sprawling temples filled with the bustle of people going about their day. The sound of children playing and distant lightsaber practice. The sight of adults hurrying past, lightsabers strapped to their hips, some with padawans trailing behind trying to keep up.
It takes him a few seconds to piece together that the memories are of the old Jedi order at its height. He turns to observe the small green child, struck by the fact that the people from that memory are probably all long gone.
"You're a lot older than you look, aren't you?" he murmurs quietly.
The child doesn't move, still deep in meditation, so Luke returns to meditating as well. They settle back into peaceful and companionable silence.
The second thing he learns about Grogu is that he loves his dad. Though Luke only met him briefly he can see that they have a strong bond.
Grogu is also more than willing to share stories of his and his dad's adventures with Luke. Every memory Grogu shares is laden with warmth and adoration.
The adventures are also seemingly extremely dangerous, which is how Luke quickly learns fact number three.
Grogu's father is a stone cold badass. From risky rescues snatching Grogu from the clutch of Imperials to killing a fully grown krayt dragon (something he is honestly in awe of) the man seems to be an unstoppable force powered by protective instincts.
As the stories go on Luke starts to wonder if part of the reason Grogu's father is so unstoppable is because he never stops to think anything through.
Of course Luke isn't exactly one to judge since he's nowhere near the picture of restraint himself.
But still, for force sake the man let himself be swallowed whole by a krayt dragon!
Even Luke isn't quite that dumb… well for the part he's not.
Grogu, it seems, has inherited his father's lack of regard for consequences, as he's quite willing to attempt to eat anything without waiting for Luke to check if it's poisonous or not.
However Grogu's favourite foods by far are frogs and cookies. Luke isn't quite sure what those two things have in common but he does know that cookies must be protected from the green bean (especially if they belong to another student) and that most of the frogs on Draay 2 aren't poisonous.
Except for the tiny yellow ones.
Chasing down Grogu to remove frogs from his mouth to scan for edibility becomes a daily struggle.
This is when Luke first realizes that Grogu is a menace.
The child has more chaotic energy than should feasibly fit into such a small being. Most memorably in the lightsaber incident. The less said about that the better but Luke has certainly learnt his lesson about leaving his lightsaber in a place that small green toddlers can reach.
He's glad to still have his legs.
A fact that he has not been at all prepared to learn came during one of Grogu's father's visits. Which was that Din was apparently a king.
Din lands his ship at the small landing platform adjacent to the temple. Grogu is practically vibrating with excitement by the time the loading door opens and the man walks out, beskar armour glinting in the sunlight.
Unlike his previous visits he is flanked by two other Mandalorians, both wearing blue armour.
Din turns to one of the Mandalorians and says something, too low for Luke to overhear at this distance, and the two Mandalorians turn to go back inside the ship.
As Din walks closer, Grogu wriggles free from Luke's arms and runs to his father. Din drops down and scoops the excited child up into his arms. Luke can hear Grogu making excited squeaks as Din murmurs something to the child.
“Who are your friends?” Luke asks as Din walks closer.
“Royal guard.” is Din’s only response.
“Royal guard?”
“I’m technically the Mand’alor”
“Technically?”
“It’s… complicated. I don’t suppose you’d want a second laser sword?”
“Uh, no thank you” Luke says, noticing one of the blue clad guards glaring at him from the ship. Her helmet is off and he can see short red hair and a slightly terrifying expression that reminds him of Leia when some poor soul angers her.
“Yeah that’s probably for the best,” Din says wryly.
The rest of the visit is fairly normal, except for the bodyguards hovering over Din. Luke gets the distinct impression that the guards are more interested in ensuring that Din doesn’t make a run for it than protecting him from danger.
Something he learns after a while is that Grogu has nightmares.
Grogu is more than happy to share snippets of memories and stories about his life before the fall of the old order. However he avoids the topic of the fall itself. Luke doesn’t push Grogu to share anything he’s not comfortable with.
Luke is pretty sure that's what the nightmares are about since Grogu refuses to tell him anything about them.
He’s okay with that. He doesn’t need to know the specifics to comfort the small scared child that comes to him. Luke just holds Grogu and murmurs reassurances.
Sometimes, if it’s really bad they start a holo call to Din, he always answers no matter the time. They stay up late talking about whatever they can think about until Grogu has fallen asleep, comforted by the presence and voice of his father.
Once when Din is visiting Grogu, Luke wakes to a knock on his door in the middle of the night. He finds a very tired looking Mandalorian carrying Grogu.
“He had a nightmare?” Luke asks.
Din nods clearly suppressing a yawn.
“Come on in. I’ll make some caf.” Luke says, stepping aside.
They stay up talking long after Grogu has fallen asleep, Din tells Luke about the struggles of being a king and Luke shares some stories he’s collected from being a teacher.
He tells Din about the lightsaber incident. Din finds it funny and Luke would probably be more annoyed if the man’s laugh wasn’t so pleasant.
By the time Din leaves, the sun is just starting to crest over the horizon and Luke realizes that he has to go set up for his morning class.
He decides that there are much worse ways to spend the night than with Din and Grogu.
Grogu apparently agrees with him based on the number of crayon drawings he makes of the three of them after that.
Luke is pretty sure Din gets a few of them framed.

a child on the busy streets of New Jersey, a girl no older than four, looked up in awe. the skies were clear that evening, and the sun had begun to dip lower than the scalps of the high rise buildings that landscape the concrete jungle. in the early hours before dusk, a trail of purple stars created bridges from one roof to the other. the child watched in merriment as a girl clad in splashes of blue and red bounded from one glowing platform to the other, practically running on air. what looked like a game of constellations from street level, was more so a life or god-knows-what-sort-of-inhuman-fbi-level-torture situation for the newly minted superhero.
kamala landed on the roof of an office building with a heavy thud. she had been playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with damage control for the better part of the morning, and it finally seemed like she had lost them. laying flat on her stomach and with her limbs star-fished, she attempted to catch her breath. her moment of rest was interrupted not by a person or a sound, but by an unmistakable smell. the quintessential, greasy and yet mouth-wateringly delicious odour of an NJ gyro. her head snapped up and she squinted to make out a vaguely familiar figure in the distance. kamala should know better than to approach strangers sitting on the edge of a thirty storey building. she’d read enough comics to know that it could all be a ploy to lure her out, the perfect trap for the hungry teenager. but her stomach growled and she lurched forward on instinct. she approached the woman slowly with her hands cupped around her mouth to project her voice.
❝ did you know that feeding your local hometown hero can be claimed on your tax dol — ❞ recognition cut her train of thought short and she tabled her pitiful pitch with a loud sigh of relief. ❝ @vmaeved ! thank god it’s you and not a classic but well planned, and perfectly diabolical evil trap for my weak willed stomach. wouldn’t put it past d.c. ❞ she lowered herself to sit beside the infamous superhero. a woman she had adored for years. the same woman she had embarrassingly fawned over when they’d had a chance to work together. a memory that kamala desperately hoped the other didn’t remember. she’s no longer fangirl kamala of the past, now she’s part of the club. now she’s cool kamala. ❝ not to ruin your dinner, which by the way – excellent choice, but I’m giving it fifteen minutes tops until the damage control drones figure out where i am. so unless you want to be tuned into Swiss cheese with their lasers, i’d inhale that gyro if i were you. ❞

Chapter 9: The Ancient Mine
The large room lay covered with brown rusted metal. The walls consist of designs that were reminiscent of the robots. Piles of sand & dust resided in the corners while cobwebs plastered the walls. Large pipes stuck out on the wall. The rust on them indicates that they had not been in use for a very long time.
"Can you give us a rundown of this place, Fi?" Link spoke.
"Certainly." Fi exited the sword. "This is the Lanayru Mining Facility. In ancient times, this was a hub of highly advanced technology. The ancient machinery is now broken and rusted. The switch that operates these machines is buried under the sand. Readings indicate it is populated with electrically charged monsters. Also, I detect the presence of ancient security measures, though they now appear to be in disrepair. One thing I will note to you masters is that your current selection of pouch items is survival-focused. Suitability to our current location is 70%. Are there any more questions?" Link shook his head. Fi returned to the sword.
The quartet of students proceeds along the path ahead. The door at the end of the room is blocked by bars. Several small creatures resembled the scorpions yet they were pink and much larger scattered around.
"That's a big scorpion…" Fledge stated.
"That is not a scorpion." Fi's voice broke through. "This is an Aracha. This larval monster is said to live one thousand years, during which time it is continually growing. Though the larva is small in size, it is quite ferocious and is often found in swarms beneath the sand. It tends to leap toward moving objects such as yourself."
Right at that moment, the Aracha leaped towards Link. The green-clad senior knight sliced at it and did the same with the others.
"Creepy things…" Pipit commented as Link sheathed his sword.
"Now we find a way through this door."
"I see some sort of switch on that wall over there." Fledge pointed over to a large switch that was across a small pit of sinksand just below on the left side.
"It looks safe to run across," Karane said. "I'll switch it on."
Karane went over to the edge of the sinksand. There she dashed across the sand, narrowly making towards the small platform the switch was placed above. The iron bars on the door were quickly gone. The guys gave her the all-clear and Karane made her way back.
"You alright?" Pipit asks as Karane takes several breaths.
"Yeah...but I'm starting not liking sand."
They entered the next room. Straight ahead lied the ruins of stairs leading to the exit. Fortunately, there was another door on the side with an accessible path. The room that the door led them to had several platforms with a large pit of sinksand. There were also ruins of some weird statues along with strangely patterned walkways. High above the center of the room was a large Timeshift Stone. Link used the Beetle to fly over to the stone to activate it.
The brown room quickly filled with color. The sinksand is now completely gone leaving nothing but a large chasm. The strangely patterned walkway started moving on its own carrying large black stones. The strange statues came to life as tall robots, but not the same as the ones they've seen.
The quartet of students stood and gaped at the sight of the ancient technology of the past. It was never anything like they've ever seen back at Skyloft. Though not everything brought to life is not good. As they made their way through the room they encountered the strange tall robot. When they got close to it, the robot immediately fired a laser towards them. Link called upon Fi to analyze the robot.
"This is a Beamos. This is an ancient security mechanism. Its weak point is its eye. The eye is also a weapon that fires a focused energy beam. I calculate a 100% failure rate at any attempt to strike the eye with your sword while it is still on top of the pedestal. I recommend using a weapon that can strike at high targets. Conversely, you could lower its head to a height your sword can reach."
Link watched the robot for several minutes. He moved closer to it which then activated its laser. He used his shield to reflect the laser to the robot, taking the moment to dash over to slice its parts until its eye reached the same level. Link thrust his sword forward into the eye, putting it out of commission.
With that taken care of, they proceeded towards the end of the room. The moving pathways, which Fi identified as conveyor belts, were difficult to transverse so they had to run on them to reach the other end, while also avoiding the black rocks. Eventually, they made it to the end of the room.
Unlike the previous one, this room remains in the brown rusted metal. There are also square platforms scattered around this room. They tried to walk alongside the ground but several spike traps, along with many Arachas prompted them otherwise. With no other options, they all jumped across the platforms. During which they noticed a big blue chest on a higher platform. They all jumped over to the platform just below the chest. Link climbed up the ladder to where the chest lay. Minutes later he came back down holding an object resembling a jar with a long slender top.
"What was in that chest?" Fledge asked.
"This." Link held out the strange jar.
"What is that, exactly?" Karane question.
"It is the Gust Bellows." Fi's voice echoed. "It is an ancient and mystical device capable of blowing an endless gust of wind. You can use uncovered items that are buried."
"Sounds useful," Pipit stated.
They tested the Gust Bellows on the large piles of dust. Sure enough, it cleared away all the dust in a quick amount of time. Satisfied with their newfound item they proceeded to the exit. The next room they went to was very large. No doubt this is where the door with the ruin stairs led to. An archway in the middle was blocked by bars but the one on the side was open. On the side lied a large pit of sinksand. The only solid ground was narrow stone paths leading to the stone platforms. Granted it was not as tense as the bridge back at Skyview Temple given that there was a chasm below them and the sinksand wasn't difficult to get out but they were still cautious. The path led them to a large dust pile along the wall. Using the Gust Bellows to uncover the dust, reveals a pathway that was big enough to crawl through to the next destination. The next room was covered with PILES of sand.
"That's a lot of sand in here," Karane said.
"But there are some stairs over there. That should lead us-" As Pipit walks through the sand-covered room, large spikes appear from the ground barely missing him. The sudden action made the yellow-clad senior knight jerk back. "Yikes! Okay, not doing that again…"
"Guess it's plan B." Link pulled out the Gust Bellows.
While it was a time-consuming process, Link blew all the sand from the room. Under the sand revealed a path not blocked by the spikes. With the sand gone, the group safely made their way to the stairs leading to the door.
The group found themselves back in the same large room. They see a mine cart covered by sand. Uncovering it with the Gust Bellows revealed a small Timeshift Stone in the cart. Activating it brought the cart to life and it started the move. They all followed the slow-moving cart to an archway that was blocked by bars that remained even when the stone came within its range. Even better, Beamos came to life.
Everyone stood guard as the Beamos scanned its targets. It then shot at a laser at Fledge who manage to parry the laser back to the robot with his shield. Link then took down the robot.
"Nice block, Fledge," Link complimented the student. "You're really good at shield parrying."
"It's nothing special. Anyone can do it," Fledge replied.
"Come on, Fledge. Learn to take a compliment. You're good at what you do."
"Thanks." Fledge looked at the bars. "How are we going to pass that?"
Link looked at the archway. Above lies a large fan of sorts. An idea came to his head. He blew the Gust Bellows on the fan which then started spinning. The bars slowly rose until they were no longer there. With the bars gone the cart started moving again.
The cart kept on moving to the side of the large room to a door on a platform. This took them to another room that was similar to the first one, with the ruins of Beamos and conveyor belts. Large gusts of air blew out across the conveyor belts. Fi informed them that they blow a very hot gust of air which was strong enough to knock them to the dark pit below.
After passing through the hot air gusts, they found themselves on the top of a platform. A large pile of sand resided on the side. The Gust Bellows help reveal a large Timeshift Crystal. Like the previous ones, activating it brought life to the entire room. Moving along, they notice an individual platform with a strange propeller device which reminded them of the fan contraption that helped open the large archways. With the Gust Bellows, Link blew on the propeller, getting him and everyone else on the other side. Their next obstacle came in the form of a blocked door.
"Now what?" Karane wondered.
"I see some strange pink diamonds over there." Pipit pointed over the three large diamonds alongside the road.
"Those have to be it," Link said.
"What makes you say that?" Karane ask.
"I saw them back at Skyview. I hit them and they opened the doors. Problem is that I've never encountered three and I don't know which one to hit…"
"I'm sure there's a clue around here," Fledge stated.
Everyone took that moment to look around. Karane quickly notices something directly across the diamonds. There lie three rows of pictures of the robots. One had one picture, the other had two, and the final had three. She notice how each row lined up perfectly across from their respective diamond.
"I think I have an idea. See those pictures of those robots? Each row aligns perfectly with the diamond. We hit the diamonds in the order of the robots."
Link used his slingshot to hit the diamonds in the order of the pictures. After hitting the last diamond the bars went up.
The room they walked into had two large statues on the side. In the middle of the room lay a white chest with a red gem. When they moved close the statues suddenly started hopping over to the group. It only stopped once the group went back to the far side away from the bars.
"Mind telling us what that is, Fi?" Pipit said.
"That is Armos. This security and defense mechanism was developed long ago. It will attack anything that enters its security perimeter. According to my records, its weak point is its mouth, but it requires some specific measure to make it open its mouth."
"How do we open its mouth?" Fledge questioned.
Getting a better look, Link noticed something on the top of the Armos. It had the same propeller device much as that platform had before. Gust Bellows in his hand's Link move close to one of the Armos causing it to jump towards him once again. Link blew on the propeller on the top. The mouth of the statue opening revealing two crystals on each side which also causes it to stop moving. The mouth closed again several seconds later and it started moving again.
"Okay here's the plan," Link said to his friends once he was back at a safe distance. "I'll use the Gust Bellows to open the mouth while the two of you destroy the crystals."
Everyone made their way towards the door, activating both statues. Link commanded one of his friends to distract the other Armos, which Karane volunteered to do. Working together Link below on the propeller, giving Pipit & Fledge the chance to destroy the crystals on each side. They head over to Karane's side, in which Armos was chasing her. Link blew on the propeller on top of the Armos and both he & Karane destroyed the blue crystals. With the Armos gone, the bars leading to the white chest lifted. Link went over to the chest and opened the lid. He pulled out a golden object.
"Looks like we got our ticket outta here!" Pipit proclaimed.
"At least there isn't a giant boulder this time…" Fledge commented.
They all proceeded to exit the large room. This leads them to a path that leads them to another minecart with a small Timeshift Stone. They activated it and follow it to large doors which turn gold. Much like at the Earth Temple, there was a large shape missing in it. After several minutes of aligning the golden key with the shape, they pushed it in once they got the correct side. They all stood as they watched the door give a glow and the key holder split in half. The doors then slowly opened. Taking a deep breath the quartet entered the room.
The chamber they walked into was round-shaped and brown with more sand below their feet. No sign of any Timeshift Stones in the room nor any exits. A lump in the sand behind slowly moved under the group before stopping in the middle of the room. Emerging from below is a large creature similar to the Arach's and scorpions. It was black with two large pincers, one was larger than the other. Large red/purple orbs occupied the large pincers. It let out a loud shrilling shriek.
"GOOD HYLIA! WHAT IS THAT?!" Fledge screamed out loud.
"That is Moldarach," Fi answered. "This is an Aracha that has survived its very lengthy larval stage is known as a "Thousand-Year Arachnid," which is precisely what you see before you. Over 90% of its body is shielded by a tough, chitinous armor that can deflect even the sharpest blade."
"Then how do we kill it?!" Pipit added.
"I detect an 85% chance that those orbs in the pincers could be their weak spot."
"Right. You guys stay back. I got this one!" Link got Moldarach's attention. The large monster followed him to the other side of the room. Link waited for the moment for it to expose the orb on each of its pincers. He achieves getting several swipes on them. The creature eyed Link's companions on the other side. Moldarach quickly buried itself under the sand.
"Where'd he go?" Link wondered out loud as he scrambled around the room.
His three companions all gave glances around. Karane had unknowingly wandered away from her friends. A small lump in the sand appeared to her side, a red-eye peeking out of it. Before she could have any time to react Moldarach quickly appeared grabbing her with its large pincer.
"KARANE!" Fledge yelled, watching the redhead struggling to free herself from the monster's pincers as they slowly crushed her.
"LET GO OF HER, YOU BASTARD!" Pipit ran over to the monster, hitting the orb in its free pincer. The yellow-clad senior knight managed to get several hits before his weapon got blocked by the monster closing its pincer, causing him to stagger back. Moldarach positioned its tail to strike at the young man. It would've succeeded had Link not tackled Pipit out of the way.
"You okay?" Link said.
"I'm fine but Karane won't be unless we do something," Pipit said.
Moldarach moved back before burying itself under the sand, taking Karane along as well. Looking closer they see a small lump moving along the ground. A sudden idea came to Pipit's mind.
"Gust Bellows! Use the Gust Bellows to uncover it!" He yelled at Link.
Link below the Gust Bellows into the moving lump. He had just uncovered just enough sand for Moldarach to reappear with Karane, coughing out the sand that got into her mouth. Pipit waited for the moment for the creature to open its pincer before striking the orb. This time the pincer exploded leaving one left. The pain was extreme enough for Moldarach to release Karane. Link took that moment to slice against that pincer which exploded as well.
"Are you okay?" Pipit ask Karane as Fledge helped her to her feet.
"I will be once that large bastard is dealt with," Karane retorted, letting more coughs.
"Working on it!" Link yelled back as he watched Moldarach bury itself again. "Okay new plan. Everyone stay close to me!"
The rest of the group stuck to Link as he uses the Gust Bellows to uncover the large monster from its sandy sanctuary. The monster reappears from the ground. A red ball lit up the center of its body. No doubt that was its eye. The creature staggered back from Link. Then it would use its tail to strike at him. Link used his shield to block it. When the creature stood dazed, Link thrust his sword several times into its eye. The creature made several more attempts to attack Link with its tail but Link always blocked it with his shield, leading him to stab the eye. This process was repeated about three times.
Moldarach let out a pain-filled scream and Link gave one final stab. Its body limped flat on the ground below before it disappeared in purple smoke. After it vanished the room suddenly started shaking. The sand below the feet started sinking, then bellowed several feet until the sand was replaced with solid ground. Ahead of the group was a large yellow door with a familiar crest of the goddess.
"I take back my earlier statement. That thing was creepy," Pipit spoke after a minute.
"How are you doing Karane?" Link asked.
Karane took off her hat to pour out the sand that got in. "Other than the sand that's all over me, I'm fine."
"Good." Link faced towards the door. "Let's go see our friend."
As everyone started to move, Karane grabbed Pipit's hand. "Pipit?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you. For freeing me from that thing."
"No problem." Pipit smiled at her. A smile that made her heart flutter.
Footsteps echoed the next room. It was dimly lit. A lone mine cart sat still on the end.
"I think I see a Timeshift Crystal up there." Fledge pointed to a pedestal hanging above the ceiling.
Link pulled out the Beetle and flew it over to the large crystal. With the crystal activated the room was now bright with a warm blue. Two rows of large states of the robots stood on each side, every single one giving a salute. The quartet of students climbed in the minecart which moved once they all were in. They all took in the quietness of the moment as they watched the statues pass by them.
"You guys want to know something?" All the guys turned their attention on Karane. "I hate sand. It's coarse, rough, and irritating. And it gets everywhere." All the guys couldn't help but let out a laugh.
The minecart made it to the end. Up ahead were stairs that led up to bright light. They proceeded up the stairs. When they got closer to the top they heard the sound of music along with someone singing. They're ahead of the group's sight was the large stone crest of the goddess with a long narrow bridge on top of an abyss connecting them to the other end. They had made it to the inside of the Temple of Time.
They were not the only ones. There they saw Zelda playing the harp with the woman, that Link knows as Impa standing beside her. In front of the pair was a large purple gear of some sort. If Link had to guess that was probably the mysterious Gate of Time.
"Zelda?" Link called out once the girl finished her singing.
The blonde turned around. A large smile grew across her lips. Impa on the other hand had a rather impressed expression.
"Link!" Zelda called out.
Quickly the group of four ran over to their friend. Without a moment's hesitation, Link wrapped his childhood best friend in a hug.
"Woah! Take it easy, sleepyhead," Zelda said.
"I'm just happy to see okay," Link pulled away. "I just hope we're not late." Link glance to Impa.
"You're not. You're all right on time," Impa spoke with amusement on her lips.
"Zelda!" Pipit shouted.
"Pipit. I'm glad to see you" The girl gave him a quick hug. "And Karane, you're...covered in sand."
"Long story short, I had a little trouble," Karane said.
"Either way, I'm happy you're here, 'Rane" Zelda hugged the redhead before turning her attention to Fledge. "And...Fledge! Look at you in a uniform. It looks so great on you!"
"Well, I had to look adventure-ready." Zelda hugged him as well.
"Now that we're all back together, we can get you back to Skyloft," Pipit declared.
"She can't go back," Impa said.
"What? What are you talking about?" Karane said.
"I...I can't go back home yet…" Zelda's face grimaced.
"But...We came all this way to find you. The headmaster and the entire academy have been worried about you. Why can't you come back?" Fledge said.
"I want to but...It's complicated to explain."
"We went through a lot of complicated things these past three days. I'm sure what you're going to say can’t top all that," Karane said.
"Whatever it is you're going through we'll help you. Just tell us what's going on," Link said.
A breath escaped from Zelda. "Well… you see."
Debris that had blocked the entrance exploded. The sky quickly got dark. A chilling laugh echoed through the air. Jumping from the dust was none other than Ghirahim. With a swipe of his sword, a barrier of diamonds blocked Link and the rest of the guys from Zelda. Karane was the only one in their group to remain by her side. Pipit hit the barrier with his hand only to feel a quickly burning sensation that was strong enough to make him stumble back
Ghirahim gave an evil smile. "Right. Now onto business…" The Demon Lord set his sights on Zelda. Impa ran forward towards him as he made a dash.
"Impa!" Zelda called out to the woman.
Impa met Ghirahim about halfway on the path. With her arms outreach, a blue shield blocked a strike from Ghirahim's sword. A frustrated expression grew on his face as the Demon Lord sliced at Impa's barrier several times.
"Your Grace! Quickly, to the gate!" Impa called out.
"Karane, listen to me!" Zelda spoke to her friend. She handed the female senior knight the harp. "Take this! You and the others will need this where you going." Karane took the instrument from the girl's grasp. She recognizes the instrument
"The Goddess Harp? But-" Karane uttered.
"Go! Now!" Impa yelled out.
"Just trust me!" Zelda spoke back to the redhead.
Zelda scrambled towards the gate. The diamond barrier blocking the guys was dying down. They could guess that Ghirahim was using all of his power to break through Impa's barrier. The barrier died at the same moment Ghirahim pierced his sword through Impa's barrier, knocking her down on the ground. Zelda let out a gasp of horror as an evil grew on The Demon Lord's lips. This was short-lived as he saw Link jump from above with his sword above his head. Ghirahim barely got out of the way when Link landed on the ground. His friends were quick to his side.
"Link…" Impa said.
"Go! Protect Zelda!" Link said to her.
"I will. You all have my thanks. I will leave him to you." Impa quickly ran back over to Zelda's side. They quickly made their way to the entrance of the gate. Impa held up a glowing orb. "Link! You and the others must go now. Return to the old woman at the Sealed Grounds. Tell her what happened here. She will know where you must go! And know that we will-"
"I'll see you all again! This isn't goodbye, guys! I promise!" Zelda yelled out before Impa guided her and herself into the gate dropping the blue orb. It exploded several seconds later destroying the Gate of Time.
Ghirahim stared at the group of humans with pure fury in his eyes, his hand clenched in a fist.
"Now you've done it, Link. I blame myself. I should have reprimanded you and your friends the last time we met, but instead, I was...soft. I'd take pleasure in punishing you all, but I have no time for recreation. But next time, I'll do more than just beat you senseless. I'll make the affair so excruciating, every single one of you will be deafened by the shrill sound of your screams."
The Demon Lord vanished from the site. The sky went lighter. The group turned back to the ruins of the Gate of Time. Fi appeared before them.
"A report, Masters. I can no longer detect Zelda's aura. The moment the gate was destroyed, Zelda's presence disappeared from my readings. You can no longer search for her with your dowsing ability."
"Does that mean Ghirahim can't get to her as well?" Link asked.
"There's a 99% chance that he cannot reach wherever she is."
"That's a relief to hear at least."
"Zelda's companion instructed you to meet with The Old One in the Sealed Grounds. This corresponds with the records in my memory. I propose that we travel to the Sealed Temple as soon as possible."
"What's that you're holding, Karane?" Fledge asked the girl who was still clutching the harp.
"It's the harp Zelda had. She said we'll need it where we're going. Where that is she didn't tell me," Karane said.
"Hopefully The Old One will explain. Let's find a Loftwing statue and get going," Link said.
Karane looked at the harp in her arms. This was not the first time she had held this instrument. As she gaze at it she recalled the last time she had this harp in Zelda's presence.

Around One Year Ago…
"Are you ready, Karane?" Zelda spoke to the divider that split up her and Karane's 'rooms'.
"Just about." Karane's voice spoke through the divider.
"Well don't keep me waiting! Let me see you!"
The divider slides to the side. There stood Karane wearing a light green dress that goes to the length of her calves, and her hairstyled with pigtails draped over her shoulders. The dress is decorated with accessories such as a brown belt with a blue cloth with a print of wings on it, along with another belt designed with gold circles. A blue gem resided on the center of her chest.
"How do I look?" Karane ask.
"It would be perfect...if you're wearing the sailcloth."
"Oh shoot!" Karane scrambled to the sailcloth on her desk and wrapped it around her shoulders. "How about now?"
"Just one final touch." Zelda went over to the corner of the room where the Goddess Harp resided. She brought the instrument into Karane's hands. "And voila! Now you're a perfect goddess!"
Karane turns to see herself reflecting from the large mirror in Zelda's bedroom.
"You're going to do great at tomorrow's Wing Ceremony," Zelda said.
"Yeah…"
"What's wrong? You sound unsure."
"I don't think I'll do that great tomorrow…"
"Now what on Skyloft makes you say that?"
"Plenty of other girls have done it so well over the years. I don't think I would be any better. Also, I'm not exactly as pretty as they all were. I don't exactly have the looks of the goddess-"
"Now you just stop right there, Karane Bellamy." Zelda placed her hands on her hip. "You're going to be a great Goddess Hylia tomorrow. And you are one of the most beautiful girls on this island. Anyone who says otherwise is either jealous-"
"...or a big dummy." Karane finished.
"Exactly! That's just your nerves getting to your head. Do you know what I say to them? Nothing. Act like they're not there. Now, where's the Karane that was excited when she accepted to play the Goddess?"
Karane gave a smile to her friend. "Thank you, Zelda. For helping me get ready for this."
"What kind of honorary sister would I be if I didn't? When father told me you accepted to play the role of the Goddess last month I knew he made the right choice. You won the ceremony last year so who better to play the role this year? I'm always happy to help. Now if you're so nervous why not you practice a bit."
"That might help calm me down. That reminds me, is Link competing this year?"
"Nah. Sleepyhead didn't pass the academic requirements. But I'll make sure he'll study more next year." Zelda gave a sly look. "But I know Pipit is competing tomorrow. Who knows...maybe he might win?"
"Why are you giving me that look?"
"Oh no reason," Zelda responded with an innocent smile. "Anyways let's get started. You should start by playing the song on the harp."
"Alright. Here I go." Karane places the harp in the proper position. She strums the strings as she started singing.
"Oh youth, guided by
the servant of the goddess…
unite earth and sky
and bring light to the land..."

Part 5 - Heavy Weighs the Helmet
Masterlist
Summary: The fight with Din and Ashoka by your side is brewing. But secrets of your family’s past are brought to the surface, extracting the truth from a certain beskar clad partner of yours.

“A Mandalorian and a Jedi? They’ll never see it coming,”
Ashoka nods and looks towards you, nothing but annoyance radiating off of you at his words.
“Are you sure you two can work together?” she says.
“I can fight. That’s what matters.”
With a curt nod, the Jedi leads the way back to the village, Grogu in arms as they silently speak. You keep your distance from Mando, an unsettling silence building up between the two of you. The subtle ring of Beskar dances on the wind, filling up the tense space.
You volunteer to drop the kid off at the Razer Crest, locking it up with one of your spare staffs in hand. As you march through the dust storm, you see the white gleam of lightsabers swinging masterfully from the protective walls. Using the sharp end of the staff, you partially stab the wall and swing over, landing all of your weight on the top of your feet to silence any excess noise.
A tight grip on your staff, you sneak through the alleyways to keep up the speedy Jedi. With each house you pass, you ensure that the people inside are safe as well as under lock and key. Keeping towards the darkness the roof holds, you watch Ashoka speak to the leader and her guard, tossing a Beskar plate at her feet.
“The Mandalorian you sent to kill me, he failed.” she states.
Silence fills the small town, only making your grip on your staff tighter with nerves.
“Where is your master?” Ashoka asks.
“Kill her,” the leader says.
Like rain, lasers fly through the air towards the Jedi. Using the length of your staff, you stab a few of the soldier robots through the head without being noticed. You closely watch as the cowardly leader hides behind another set of walls, not before saying:
“Execute them. Then move door to door.”
As she disappears into another building, you reveal yourself from your cloak of dark and quickly stab the nearest soldier through the head. Using their weight you clobber the next soldier with him still attached to the end of your spear. Spinning on your heels, you slice another head clean off it’s shoulders.
A powerful blow is landed behind you, the clanking of metal meeting the ground being the last you hear before mechanical breathing kicks in.
“How nice of you to show up,” you grumble.
“Focus,”
One of the town residents clears his throat, making Mando quickly aim his gun at them. With a harsh sigh you push the tip down and nod towards the innocent, following his lead in freeing the prisoners who were suspended.
“Get inside!” you yell as the last prisoner is freed.
“Don’t come out for any reason!” Mando says behind you, just a shot comes for his neck.
Quickly you shove him to the ground (which is not an easy task) and take the shot yourself, right where Ashoka had burned you merely hours ago. But before Mando had a chance to stand, you launch your spear at the soldier, the blade lodging in his head with a sound thunk.
“Dank farrik! What were you thinking?”
“I was thinking I didn’t want you to get shot...” you mumble.
“I’m covered in armour, Mesh’la.”
You send him a glare at the nickname, walking over to the body and yanking the spear out from the deceased’s chest.
“You’re right...this time,” you smirk a bit.
“I’m always right,”
“We’ll see about that,”
You twirl the staff around, scanning the area for anymore incoming threats you knew were lurking in the same darkness you once did. Suddenly, a flash of dulled blue jumps onto the wall beside you. Ashoka nods towards the new threat, making you turn and stare down the intruder. Your eyes widen as his face appears through your memories...
His seedy grin stands out from above you, beside you, behind you. His handprints still clearly imprinted in the nerves that encircle your throat. The feeling of his rough hands...everywhere.
“You’re not worth a damn thing you hear me? Nothing!”
The pain from his words and from his movements erutps across your body as shivers run down your spine. Everything from his knife to his binds. How you survived the time he had rented you was still a mystery. How a man so evil had the advantage over you something you would never allow again.
“So you threw in with the Jedi and the whore, huh?” he says.
Mando’s fists clench at his sides, his shoulders bracing, lifting with ease towards the edges of his helmet.
“How about I show you what a whore like me can do then?” you say, twirling your bloodied staff in hand as you take a few steps towards Mando.
The song of Beskar against Lightsaber fills the dusty air as you stare one another down. Turning from you to Mando, the bodyguard asks:
“Who do you think’s gonna win? Could be your side. Could be mine.”
With each word he takes a slow, cautious step. You go to follow but the squeezing of leather catches your ears first. Subtly looking towards Mando’s back, you see a fist, a sign to hold your ground. Looking back towards the bodyguard, you tighten your hold on your staff instead.
“I got no quarrel with you, Mandalorian. Or your bitch.”
He continues to step closer, his words only fueling your need for revenge. For resolve.
“That’s far enough.” Mando says quickly, your tension easing a bit while his rises with the last words shared.
One hand drops towards his blaster, the other free to speak to you in secret. You glare at the bodyguard, rocking subtly on your feet in preparation to jump.
“You and I are a lot alike. Willing to lay our lives down for our cause. Willing to take the right payment for risking our lives,” a seedy smirk forms on the bodyguard’s face.
“One more word about her and I’ll make sure no woman will ever see your face again,”
“It’s just innocent fun, Mandalorian. We both know how...expendable people like her are. Or have you grown attached?”
“I’m gonna throw my spear directly where the sun don’t shine here soon...” you mumble underneath your breath.
“Don’t,” a short, quiet word. One even his helmet couldn’t pick up on.
The sharp clang of Beskar hitting the ground is like a gong, signaling the end of the fight. Defeat fills the bodyguard’s ugly features.
“Looks like you win,” he states, placing his gun on the ground. Your grip never loosens.
Mando’s hand dances around his gun. Just at the right time, he pulls it out as the bodyguard does the same. His aim is at your head, but Din’s aim and pull of the trigger is faster, sending his body to the ground.
“I owe you,” you say.
“Don’t worry about it,”
Soon, the villagers come pouring out of their houses, nodding towards you both in thanks. However, one of their eyes goes wide from over your shoulder. Just as they alarm you to the threat, you pull your hidden gun out from your belt, turn and shoot down the last of the robot soldiers. Mando’s helmet just gazes at you, probably stunned.
“Guess you owe me now,” you smirk.
After you were able to escape the festivities of the town, you made your way back to the Razer Crest. Walking up the platform, you see Din holding Grogu close, a gentle thumb coaxing his tiny back.
“It’s amazing how close we’ve gotten to a creature so mysterious,” you whisper softly as you walk closer, the tip of your finger gently rubbing against the little one’s cheek.
Din’s helmet twists and the pang in your heart knows that it’s Ashoka, here to take him away.
“You be good, got it kid?” Din whispers to the little one.
“And you better not forget your Dad and I,” you whisper as well.
Mando’s shoulders drop at the name, your hand moving from the Child’s face to his shoulder, giving him a comforting hand through the armour.
“I can’t train him,” Ashoka suddenly says.
Looking towards the Jedi in question, you wipe a stray tear away. A bag hangs close to her hips, her hands tucked in front of her.
“You are like a father and mother to him,”
“But you promised to train him,” you quickly remind. “And we held up our end of the deal. As much as I hate to let him go, he needs you.”
Ashoka walks closer to the two of you, gently grasping Grogu’s hand as she goes deep into thought.
“There is one possibility. Go to the planet Tyhton, there you will find the ancient ruins of a temple deeply connected to the Force. Place Grogu on the seeing stone there. There he can choose his path and call out to any other Jedi who will come searching for him. Then again, there aren’t many Jedi left.”
Mando reluctantly accepts the alternative, nodding his head slowly.
“Thank you,” you say for him.
“May the Force be with you,”
Din turns and walks onto the ship, hitting buttons on the way up to the cockpit. As you turn to follow him, a gentle hand grasps your bicep.
“I found these with your family name on them,” Ashoka says, taking the bag off of her.
“Family name?” you shake your head. “No one knows of it but me. It died along with Mandalore.”
“Looters go there all the time in search for Beskar. It seems this armour was among the many things poached from their.”
Ashoka pulls out a piece of the armour, clicking a button to reveal the language lost to you, your family name written on the hologram in Mando’a.
“Oh my god,” you whisper.
“Just as the spear belongs to your friend,” Ashoka puts away the piece and hands you the bag. “So does this armour belong to you.”
Gently grasping it, you nod softly, shock still evident as you shake a bit from the discovery.
“Thank you, Ashoka.”
“May the Force be with you too.”
You slowly walk back up into the ship, opening the panel to close the hatch.
“And please, for Grogu’s safe, give the Mandalorian a chance. No one likes to see their parents at odds.”
With a smirk and a nod, you hit the button and close the hatch. Quickly, you disappear into your quarters on the Crest, laying the bag gently onto your cot. Opening it up, you pull out some damaged armour, but nevertheless yours. The one you remember your mother wearing before passing away, orphaning you.
You strip out of your many layers of jackets and scarves until you’re left in your tight undershirt and pants. As you slowly slip on each piece of armour, you remember your mother telling you about the Creed she took. One so much different to Din’s.
Never did she take her helmet off in public, but when surrounded by close friends and family, they got to see the sunshine of a smile she carried on her face. The one you missed so dearly. As you slip the helmet on, the tech reboots, showing heat signatures and all the weapons that hadn’t been damaged.
Slowly, you make your way up to the cockpit. After the last ladder rung, you gently tap Din’s shoulder. He turns in his seat, the Child excitedly giggling at the sight of you in your suit.
“Woah...” you hear him whisper, the sound seeping out from underneath his helmet.
“Am I okay to wear this? I know I don’t follow your Cr-”
“You’re a Mandalorian, (Y/N). There’s no difference to me in my eyes.”
You take the helmet off, holding it on your hip by your side as you walk to your chair. As your butt hits the seat, you lay the helmet on the ship’s dashboard.
“It suits you, Mesh’la,” Din says while turning back to the whizzing stars of hyperspace.
Instead of a glare, you smile.

At The Hour Of Death
Character: Star Paladin Cross [#13 out of #52] Series: Fallout 3 Song Inspiration: Vikingur Olaffson - "...And At The Hour of Death" [#820 of #3000] Word Count: 727
TW: Death.
Arching streaks of sickly green lightning flashed across the sky; a blanket of viridescent clouds shielding the Capital Wasteland from the dying twilight. A distant rumble of thunder from the west announced its presence with a sturdy shudder as rain, acidic and fetid, pelted the pavements and dilapidated structures surrounding Star Paladin Cross. In the storm, she and her small group of Brotherhood soldiers had found themselves defending the bridge to Rivet City as a pack of centaurs advanced onto the metal platform in swarms of ten or more at a time, forked tongues flicking and teeth gnashing.
“Raise the bridge!” A Brotherhood knight bellowed to the Rivet City security guard behind him, his voice distorted by his helmet. A brief flash of lightning forked across the sky and illuminated the scene before them as radioactive spit was flung like weapons towards the iron-clad knights and paladins.
“Can’t! Storm’s caused an electrical malfunction,” came the bitter reply from the security guard before he was swiftly cut down by a radioactive projectile from a nearby centaur. He fell to his knees and cried out in pain.
Amongst the acrid stench of death and the piercing grinding of metal on metal, Star Paladin Cross clutched her laser rifle to her chest. She reloaded the laser with quick precision and set her sights once more on the steel platform, swarming with centaurs. From her position below the bridge, hugging the steel column beside her, she aimed at the packed and commanded her soldiers.
“Paladin Bishop! More firepower on the bridge!” She screamed to be heard above the clash of teeth and claws and steel. Paladin Bishop did as he was told, moving in an instant to his newly assigned location. He received a grunt of approval from Cross.
Above the rabble, she continued firing requests at her squad-mates, and one by one, they responded to her rapid-fire commands.

Twenty minutes had passed and night had settled overhead alongside a blanket of fog before the herd of mutant centaurs had begun to thin. The cold permeated the Star Paladin’s armour and settled like smoke on her skin, and the stench of ozone from her laser rifle was almost enough to choke on. Nevertheless, she kept firing, each nightmarish creature meeting their end at her and her squad, like so many others before them.
In the back of her mind, a warning nipped her. She had never known centaurs to attack without a super mutant nearby. The radioactive fog that swept over the Capital obscured any other creatures that could be lurking nearby in the shadows. This was the only though that the Star Paladin had as she ploughed through the dwindling numbers of centaurs, but as the last caught a round of her laser fire and fell before her, she cast a glance behind her and saw the dark silhouette of a behemoth in the fog, gearing up to swing at a knight on the bridge.
Time froze.
The behemoth took a step towards the platform, the knight oblivious to the creature advancing behind him.
One heartbeat.
The behemoth began to raise the dented and cracking fire hydrant in its grasp. The knight stood over the body of a centaur, helmet obscuring his vision.
Two heartbeats.
The storm steamed it’s shattering cries over Rivet City and the ruins below, swallowing the battle-cries of victorious Brotherhood knights and paladins alongside the creature’s own bellows. Lightning began to crackle above.
Three heartbeats.
The knight in the behemoth’s path could not be any older than Initiate- no, Paladin Redding.
Four heartbeats.
Star Paladin Cross had made her decision.
She moved forward. Her laser rifle fell from her hands with an unceremonious thud as she shoved the knight out of the way of the behemoth’s strike.

Somewhere in the vast expanse of post-war America, the night was alive and full of hope. A million miles away from the carnage, the gentle night-time breeze kissed the earth, and people slept soundly, shielded from nightmares of a world long forgotten in their dreamlike states.
There was no such reprieve for Star Paladin Cross, however, as she drifted in and out of consciousness, her bruised and battered form twitching behind a pillar holding up the bridge to Rivet City. Her vision pulsed red, then grey, as the light around her dimmed.
At least her death would be meaningful.

Robot, Thunderjaw

In what is becoming a theme for the creatures I am commissioned to write, I have not played Horizon: Zero Dawn, so there may be some inaccuracies in the writeup. Funnily enough, this is also of a piece with the arrowtongue as a T. rex analogue with blindsight.]
Robot, Thunderjaw CR 15 N Construct This metallic behemoth resembles a great dinosaur clad in armor and bristling with technological weaponry. It has no arms, only two stout legs. An array of sensors protrudes from its back and guns and odder implements stud its hips, head and tail.
The thunderjaw is a powerful robotic weapons platform, built as much for defense as offense. It lacks some of the usual weaknesses of robots—it is highly resistant to electricity, and its internal servos and circuits are well reinforced against lucky or precise strikes. Their sensory array allows them to attack even invisible opponents with ease, and they are skilled at smoking enemies out of hiding or from behind cover. However, it is relatively slow for its size and lacks flight capacity or other all-terrain movement. The saurian design elements and the more protective philosophy make it a contrast to the annihilator robot, and sages have spirited debates over whether the two creatures were originally designed to oppose or compliment each other.
Thunderjaw robots have inherent territorial programming, and they often patrol wide areas as their “home ranges”. Thunderjaws often have an intimate knowledge of their territory, and if they know that enemies are coming, they attempt to lure them into dead ends, hazardous terrain, or near the lairs of predatory beasts. They are intelligent enough to understand speech, but cannot speak themselves without access to translation equipment.

Laser Cone (Ex) As a standard action once every 3 rounds, a thunderjaw can fire a barrage of lasers in a 60 foot cone. All creatures in the area take 18d6 fire damage (Reflex DC 20 half). Force effects do not block the laser cone, transparent physical barriers take damage but allow the effect to pass through, and fog, smoke or other clouds provide cover against the laser cone. The save DC is Intelligence based. Penetrating Fire (Ex) As a standard action, a thunderjaw may make a chain gun attack against all opponents in two 200 foot lines. Reinforced (Ex) A thunderjaw gains a +4 racial bonus on all saving throws, and lacks a robot’s usual vulnerability to electricity.

Hey I was wondering if you’d take a prompt where the reader is an ex-padawan who’s master died pretty early on in order 66, and was instead saved by a clone that removed his inhibitor chip. Then maybe they get separated, and years later when the reader is a crew member on the Mantis, they come across the clone again? How would the crew, especially Cal and Cere, react to meeting a friendly ex-soldier clone who’s close with the reader? Could you make it full of angst then fluff? Love your writing!

The Mantis charted a course to Kashyyyk. For the rest of the trip, you sat on the couch, still finding yourself in deep thought. As you drew nearer to the planet, something in there was beckoning you, although you cannot say for sure what it was—it was a feeling, but of what?
Upon your arrival in the planet’s orbit, you’re met with a blockade of Star Destroyers. Cere made quick work of masking the ship’s signature in the Empire’s radar while entering the planet.
“[y/n], can you radars for me?”
“No problem, Cere,”
You watched the wall of monitors behind Greez’s seat, while the captain tries to fly casual, you kept a close eye on the radars—the blips indicating the Star Destroyers’ signature glowed in the same color as the Mantis.
“Okay, we’re good,” you breathed.
The shadow of the gargantuan command ship blanketed the smaller cruiser ship entering the planet. You weren’t sure if the pounding in your eardrums was your heart or the Star Destroyer’s thrusters pumping. You got through the blockade quietly and entered the sea of clouds of Kashyyyk’s atmosphere.
Once you’ve cut through the sheet of clouds and revealed the vast green landscape, you’re greeted by a TIE Fighter whooshing in only to be obliterated by a rebel gunship right in front of the Mantis’s windshield.
“What was that!?” you screeched.
“Kid, aren’t you supposed to be watching the monitors?!” Greez cries at Cal.
“Guerilla fighters! They’ve ambushed an assault convoy!”
“Walkers are approaching their position!” Cere added.
Keeping the objective of finding Tarfful in mind, Cal had to cook up a plan—and fast.
“Sabotage,” Cal said nonchalantly as he hopped out of his seat. “We used to scrap walkers in Bracca. I’ll just jack one.”
“Get a load of this kid, he think he’s back in the Clone Wars!” Greez scoffed.
“Babe, I love your confidence,” you start off with a blank, unreadable tone until Cal spotted your smirk. “But I say go for it!”
“You two kids are gonna do no good to my blood pressure and my ship, you know that!?”
Cere tells Greez to fly the Mantis closer to the AT-AT walkers rising up from the depths of the Origin River. You slammed the button and the door whizzes open.
“Cal, do me a favor? Stay alive down there,”
“I’ll add that to the plan,” he turned to you, a flirtatious smug plastered on his face. “See you around?”
You grab him by the scruff of his poncho and stole a kiss, “Sure, I’ll be alive at the next stop past that disaster.”
You and Cere braced the walls for balance, Cal slowly stepped out of the moving ship and timed his jump.
“Ready for a swim, BD!?”
“Trill, BEEEEP!!!”
You watched Cal spring from the entry ramp, his whooping howl echoed as he vanished in the wind. Cere then turned to you.
“There he goes,” you said casually.
“Come on, [y/n], you take Cal’s seat at the cockpit and help us out,”
“No problem!”
Cal and BD-1 safely dropped into the Origin River and swam towards the moss-draped AT-AT walkers. Meanwhile, the Mantis crew worked their way through the dogfight in the sky.
“Hey kid, you a good shot?” said Greez.
“Why?”
“You’re gonna help me get through those TIE Fighters!”
Greez activated the Mantis’s ion cannons for you. A device pops out of its hatch from the floor and erects in front of you—revealing a steering analog complete with a targeting computer. Your eyes widened in great amazement—ion cannon analogs and targeting computers weren’t new to you, but fairly enough, it has been five years since you’ve seen some aerial action.
“Does Cal know about this?!” you squealed.
“Naw, this is the first time I’ve turned that thing on after a while! Now go on and get ‘em!”
You wore the headset that came with the analog and computer, you kept your eye on the targeting device until the TIE Fighter’s blip stayed still in the circle.
Clack!
You crunched the trigger buttons and out comes twin lasers shooting out of the ship’s armaments, the TIE Fighter went down in the first shot.
“Not bad!” Greez commended, but then muttered under his breath, though in a good way. “Heh, beginner’s luck.”
Peering through the windshield, you spotted a single AT-AT attacking another AT-AT and immediately you knew that it was Cal maneuvering the friendly AT-AT.
“Looks like Cal’s sabotage plan worked,” you blurted and continued clearing the air out of hostiles.
“Kid’s having way too much with that thing!”
��Who wouldn’t?” a grin played along your lips.
Greez rolled his eyes when he saw the look on your face, “Oh, of course, peas in a pod, the pair of ya! Why do I even bother?!”
The Lateron steered clear of the skirmish in the ground as Cal slowly disappears into that trench pass, a larger TIE—which you guessed to be a shuttle-type—hovers low behind the high rock walls. The sabotaged walker trade blasters and cannons with that imposing, dark grey ship.
“Looks like we’ll have to push a little harder!” Cal exclaimed.
Cal pressed the buttons of the trigger hard, releasing a pair of ballistics out of the AT-AT’s twin barrels and meeting its mark on the TIE shuttle’s hull. The young Jedi, suddenly trigger-happy, continued sending blasts to the enemy hovering across him until it was beginning to burst in flames.
“Come on…!” Cal snarled through clenched teeth.
The wings of the TIE imploded, a firework of sparks sputtered out of the vehicle, Cal celebrated with a smug chuckle but instantaneously disappeared when he saw that the ship is spinning out of control towards him.
“BRACE YOURSELF, BD!!!”
The AT-AT went down when the damaged TIE shuttle collided with it. Fortunately, Cal and BD-1 popped out of the emergency exit hatch at the bridge unscathed.
“Yeah, I’m okay. And you?”
“Bee, trill!”
“No, we are not doing that again,” Cal wagged his finger at the little mischief of a droid.
A gruff, dark man clad in bulk armor approached him.
“You just wrecked a perfectly good walker!”
Cal shrugged his shoulders, merely translating to “What else would you want me to do?”
The hulking man introduced himself as Saw Gerrera and immediately asked the boy his purpose of going to Kashyyyk in such interesting timing.
Before Cal could even answer, the Mantis hovered and landed on the hangar; you’re overly eager to hop out of the ship and jumped off the entry ramp in the middle of its unfolding. Before you could run up to Cal, you surveyed the destruction of the landing pad—your enthusiastic smile dissolved at the sight of the guerilla fighters in pain and immobilized. It almost reminded you of that particular event.
You walked up to Cal and then introduced yourself to Saw.
“So, what’s your business with him?”
“Jedi business,”
“The Jedi are dead,”
“Not all,” Cere cut in.
You and Cal tugged your lightsabers off of your belts. When questioned with how you got those weapons, the two young Jedi took no offense and answered respectively.
“My master gave it to me,”
“It’s been on my hip ever since I was a kid,”
“Well, my companions and I are trying to liberate the enslaved Wookiees, some of them are bound to know where Tarfful is,”
“You don’t mind if we take a look around?”
The guerilla leader didn’t mind. He quickly returned his mind to his responsibilities in front of him.
“My scouts have reported an Imperial transport filled with medical supplies, we need it more than the Imperials do. Can one of you make a run for it?”
You stepped in, “I could do that.”
“Alright, take some companions with you. You’re not carrying all of those alone,”
There was no room in arguing about that so you let Saw’s fighters accompany you to where the medical supplies are held. Cal snatched your wrist, stopping you in your tracks.
“Wait,”
“What is it?”
He gingerly cupped your cheek and snuck in a kiss before you go.
“See you around?” he throws back the question to you.
“Yeah,” you bite your lip as you failed miserably in hiding a flirtatious smile. “See you.”
Cal didn’t let go of your hand, it slipped away as you walked farther from him; you cleared your throat, collecting your bearings before following one of the partisans taking the lead. The redhead then walked to the opposite direction towards the elevator leading to the forest trench.
Meanwhile, you had no problem getting along with the partisans.
“Your boyfriend sure seems protective of you,” one of them commented after the two of you slid off the body of the fallen AT-AT to the other side of the path.
A reaction that ought to be a chuckle turned out to be an awkward, casual scoff. She didn’t
“I’m Adrina, by the way, we look like we’re ‘bout the same age,”
“Name’s [y/n]. Nice to meet you,”
“Likewise!”
“Come on now, we’re not that far!” the leader hollered from the front of the pack.
It was a good thing that Cal didn’t blow up that one supply bay stationed along the trench pass. It was almost too convenient.
“There they are!” the leader announced and then waved his hand in the direction of the bay’s veranda, calling the attention of the fighters waiting for them.
The soldiers on the platform kicked down two ladders for all of you. As soon as you hauled yourself up and met with the group securing the supplies, the next thing wasn’t exactly you weren’t anticipating ever since you got into this planet.
“Well, it’s about time you hauled your asses up here to get these supplies—otherwise, I’d have given it to those Imps!”
The voice that came with those words made your chest constrict and you heart beat out of rhythm.
You know that voice better than anyone else.

Happy Star Wars Month!
Happy Star Wars Month! Compiled here is a chronology of what the Kylux fandom has been through so far. This is by no means complete, and is specifically tailored for events in the USA, so it’s being provided as an open source document to share and distribute because each fan’s experience is different. We should all be so proud of our accomplishments, from art to fics to comics to toys and so much more!

Favorite Villains - King K. Rool (Donkey Kong Country)
Even if Mario has far and away taken the status of the icon of Nintendo and perhaps even the medium of video games themselves, it’s hard to say if the real ice breaker was him or his ape adversary, Donkey Kong. The original Bowser in some ways, as simple as the dynamic was, I love how the mythos of Mario and Donkey Kong has weaved and molded in so many ways, weird as that sounds. This shift would really start with the inception of Rare’s Donkey Kong Country series, where the titular gorilla would take the starring role against his own nemesis; King K. Rool. Donkey Kong Country is quick to establish that the Donkey Kong we see isn’t the Donkey Kong that fought Mario in ye olde arcades. Though it’s sort of contested and confused among fans in an unclear manner, it’s widely accepted that the adversarious DK was the current DK’s grandfather, who has settled down as Cranky Kong. Just this little bit of myth goes a long way in selling the Kongo Islands as a whole new corner of the Mario universe, enough so that it’s easy forget they share a sun and moon, especially when there’s a villain as deadly as K. Rool to terrorize his own personal corner.
K. Rool’s plots aren’t overly elaborate; the conflict begins when Donkey Kong finds that all of his bananas have been stolen and he knows precisely who is to blame. As beyond one dimensional as this seems, there’s canon documentation that K. Rool has done this for the express purpose of damning the Kongs to starve. As vile as that is to pushing cartoony, I almost buy that a privileged monarch would just commit something so beyond cruel out of sheer spite, and I think that’s what drives K. Rool to be such an endearingly horrible bad guy. K. Rool pretty easily resembles just a Bowser lite in many degrees, a reptilian king with a penchant for entitlement and greed. I think it’s kind of cute that Donkey Kong Jr. (for all intents and purposes) has the very same sort of enemy that his once enemy Mario did. Along with that, the aesthetic similarities are about where K. Rool and Bowser end comparison, because while Bowser was all about possessing, K. Rool wants to destroy. The King of the Kremlings wants nothing to do with a princess or treasure (he even hates the taste of bananas), he’s fueled by pure spite, enough so that he’s built a massive laser capable of destroying the entire Kongo Isle.
And, yeah, applying this kind of allegory is pretty silly to apply to an anthropomorphic Nintendo character, but I think there’s absolutely something to be said about a gold jewelry clad king perched in a much nicer island and looking down upon an entire species he deems flea bitten and less worthy. Hell, at least Bowser is an equal opportunity employer with all kinds of Mushroom Kingdom monsters in his ranks, K. Rool seems to exclusively employ his reptilian Kremling people. What’s also rather fun about K. Rool is that he loves to reinvent and adapt himself, seemingly on his own whims for the fun of it. He’s straightforward King K. Rool in his first appearance, but in Country 2 he dons a pirate’s cap as Kaptain K. Rool, before wrapping himself in a lab coat to become Baron K. Roolenstein in Country 3. Donkey Kong 64 sees him fight the Kongs in the persona of a boxing glove toting prize fighter, Krusha K. Rool. Not only does it add a sort of neat cosplay element and variety to his character, it kinda speaks to his sense of entitlement. He’ll do what he wants to regardless of his circumstances, if he wants to be a pirate or a mad scientist, he’ll be one that day, damn it. No matter how good he actually is at whatever odd persona he wants to do about then he’s driven enough by the novelty to go about it.
What really kick started my newfound love for K. Rool though was his recent revival in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. Such a glimpse may seem minor, but his reveal was so masterful and one of my favorite surprises I’ve seen in the lead up to a video game in a long while. We see Donkey Kong and Diddy watching a montage of the other Nintendo heroes with their respective villains while the Kongs look on wistfully, bored. K. Rool (after tearing through a fraudulent King Dedede) bursts in and the apes are indescribably shocked--I like to think this is an intentional nod to the decade long retirement K. Rool has recently experienced. Such a classic villain finally tears into Smash and not even his respective foes fully believe it. In reverse, if we peer at the Donkey Kong Country cartoon--which is terrible as an adaption of the charm of the video games but just hilarious as a nonsensical romp to shake your head at on an off day, even that had a pretty decent K. Rool. He isn’t as physically intimidating as he could be, but he’s about as greedy, fickle, and over the top as you’d really want. His voice actor, Benedict Campbell created a really fitting, sinister voice that sells every (often terrible) line he’s given.
Plus, K. Rool has more or less stepped up his game with his every appearence. After he was beaten by the duo of DK and Diddy, he actually suceeded in imprisoning Donkey Kong and forcing Diddy to go out with a new Kong, Dixie. After losing to them he kidnaps Diddy which makes Dixie pick up Kiddy Kong for help. He has a very divide and conquer approach, leading to him managing to lock up four of the five core Kong family members in DK64. This reptilian monarch is a fun platformer villain with gadgets and malice galore. What more could you ask for? Perhaps a theme song that totally SLAPS!
